This volume follows the development of the internationalist worldview and activities in Japan from 1933 to 1964 through official policy and general discourse surrounding key moments in the country's history, such as its withdrawal from the League of Nations in 1933 and admission into the United Nations, the failed and successful attempts to host the Tokyo Olympics, and participation in wartime and post-war regional conferences: the Greater East Asia Conference in Tokyo and the Asian-African Conference, or Bandung Conference, in Indonesia. It describes evolving Japanese views of multilateral organizations; the shift from political activities to cultural exchange, focusing on the establishment and activities of the Society for International Cultural Relations and the 1938 and 1964 efforts to host the Olympics; and concepts of Asian regional cooperation. Early versions of some sections have been previously published elsewhere. Annotation ©2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
