This is an extraordinary account of an exceptional man. Adams (1929-1999) was a Korean war POW who, when released, refused repatriation to the US, married, and built a life for himself in China before returning to the US under pressure from the Cultural Revolution. He had written of his experiences and motivations for his decisions, which were based on his thinking about the status of Blacks in America at the time, but the manuscript was lost. Fortunately, his daughter, Della Adams, had documents and had heard him tell so much of his story that she could help writer Lewis H. Clarkson reconstruct this fascinating account.
