Session initiation protocol (SIP) is one of the most widely adopted protocols for IP telephony. This handbook provides technical information about all aspects of SIPA, covering basic concepts through future directions. The book's 24 chapters, authored by 65 experts from around the world, are grouped in sections on concepts and services, technologies, and security. Concepts are explained related to areas such as SIP in peer-to-peer networks, advanced media integration, and group conference management with SIP. Technologies discussed include SIP and vertical handoffs in heterogeneous wireless networks, and SIP- based mobility management. Some security issues discussed are anonymity in SIP, and secure intelligent SIP services. The audience for the book includes designers and/or planners for SIP systems, researchers, and graduate students. The handbook can be used as a textbook for graduate courses and research-oriented courses that deal with SIP. Ahson is a senior software design engineer with Microsoft. Ilyas is associate dean for research and industry relations in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University.
