Young children are naturally interested in the patterns and processes occurring in the world around them. They are beginning to learn about the changes happening each day, month, and season. Each chapter includes a general introduction to the theme; ideas to start you thinking about math, science, language, and literacy; vocabulary related to the topic; and children's book suggestions.

Sally Anderson is the founder and executive director of the Vermont Center for the Book, an affiliate of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. She has created professional development programs for early childhood educators and librarians across the country, including courses centering on math, science, social studies, and early literacy.
