A collection of over 500 letters the elder Aquila (d. 1994) wrote to his extended family in Buffalo, New York during the last two years of the war, while he was stationed at Wendover Field, in Utah, taking part in preparations for the atomic bombing. They offer historians views of a working-class immigrant family and of daily life on a US base. His son Richard (history and American Studies, Ball State U.) provides an extensive introduction to the family; he is cited as author on the title page, so some listings may be confused.
