The MEDICON conferences are international events of high scientific standards with long lasting tradition held every third year in one of the Mediterranean countries under the auspices of the international Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering. After more than twenty years since its first implementation in Patras as MEDICON 1989 and following a very successful tour in Italy 1992, Israel 1995, Cyprus 1998, Croatia 2001, Italy 2004 and Slovenia 2007, this major event returns to Greece as MEDICON 2010 in Chalkidiki. During these years, Biomedical Engineering underwent an amazing progress and provided the basis for the recent developments in health care delivery. This evolution creates however an explosively evolving and very demanding environment. MEDICON 2010 is dedicated to all those young Biomedical Engineers who have to face this new challenging situation and are expected to play a key role in bringing the benefits of the technological evolution right to the patient.

This "MEDICON 2010" conference proceedings volume presents recent advances in practically every main topic of Biomedical Engineering. It provides communication and an exchange of ideas on Biomechanics and Biomaterials, Medical Devices and Bioinstrumentation, Medical Imaging, Technology Assessment, Clinical Engineering, Rehabilitation Engineering, Medical Informatics and e-Health, as well as Educational, Ethical and Professional Aspects.

International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering

The IFMBE is an association of constituent societies and organizations which was established in 1959 to encourage and promote international collaboration in research and practice of the profession as well as in the management of technology and the use of science and engineering in medicine and biology for improving health and quality of life. Its activities include participation in the formulation of public policy and the dissemination of information through publications and forums. The IFMBE as the only international organization and WHO/UN accredited NGO covering the full range of biomedical/clinical engineering, healthcare, and healthcare technology management, represents through its 50 national and international member societies more than 120.000 professionals involved in the issues of improved health care delivery.

The IFMBE is associated with the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM). Through the IUPESM, the IFMBE is a member of the International Council for Science (ICSU). http://www.ifmbe.org
