This anthology of papers looks at what the international law of the sea says about energy projects in marine areas. The oceans have increasingly been used for both resource extraction and renewable energy projects, and these uses are likely to increase. Most books on the subject look at either trade and investment law and how to extract the maximum amount of money from marine oil and gas with minimum restriction, or at environmental factors and the interaction of renewable energy technologies, fishing, and aquaculture. This book attempts to look at all energy-generating uses of the sea together in relation to the international legal framework of the law of the sea. It deals with energy sources and competition for marine space, energy security, private sectors and corporate social responsibility, the evolution of international law on the subject and its fragmentation or integration, and liability.
