A: The Washington Monument. Ever since it was built in 1829, people have been trying to figure out the significance of those dimensions, assuming there’s some sort of numerological significance. The designer, Robert Mills (he also designed the Department of the Treasury building) revealed that he picked those numbers based on his desire to make the monument an impressive height while using the 10-to-1 proportions of classic Egyptian obelisks.
