Baxter, a music therapist who specializes in working with at-risk, behaviorally and emotionally disturbed adolescents, et al. present the Individualized Music Therapy Assessment Profile (IMTAP) as a means to evaluate pediatric and adolescent clients using therapist-planned structured and/or improvisational music therapy interventions that are used to assess areas of functioning. It is meant for use with individuals with multiple severe physical disabilities, communication disorders, autism, severe emotional disturbances, social impairments, learning disabilities, and other challenges. It does not prescribe a specific methodology or activities. Describing the process, which goes from intake to reporting, the authors provide an overview of the method, its rationale, history, and development, administration instructions, an explanation of the quantification module for data collection, skill definitions, and two case studies. The CD-ROM contains PDF files of the many forms included in the book and the IMTAP software, an automated system of client management, data collection and assessment scoring. The book is intended for students and music therapists. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
