Bazand-Nelson (Modern Art in Latin America, Tulane University) examines the art of Argentine Liliana Porter through four decades. While she gives some biographical information, the main thrust of Bazand-Nelson's interest is the way in which Porter constructs and deconstructs reality in her often whimsical work and the influence of writers such as Borges and artists like Goya and Magritte on her world view. Through the many shifts in media, the nature of reality is always a theme for Porter with the suggestion that perhaps it doesn't exist. There are many black and white representations of the art, with some color plates. The author was able to interview the artist for this work, which enriches the study.
