This is the first biography of Battling Siki (b. Amadou Fall), the young Senegalese man who, in 1922, won the world light-heavyweight boxing championship of the world at Paris's Buffalo Velodrome. Author Benson (English, Fairleigh Dickinson U.) describes how behind the image of a hard-drinking carousing boxer constructed in the press stood a socially-conscious man who battled against racism and corruption in the boxing world. He also investigates the circumstances of his death by shooting in New York's Hell's Kitchen at the age of twenty-eight, only three years after winning the world championship.
