Michelangelo in Print. The works of Michelangelo were famous in their own time far outside of Rome and Florence. Barnes (art history, Wake Forest University) demonstrates how prints were being made of Michelangelo's work in his lifetime. She is particularly interested in the influence the art had on later artists who made engravings that were intended as an homage rather than exact copies. She also discusses the intended audience for the prints and the thorny question of the printers making money from the art, a practice disdained by many, including the biographer Vasari.
