This is a paperbound reprint of a 2000 work telling the story of what happened at two American-owned German factories under the Third Reich: Opel, owned by General Motors, and Ford Werke, owned by Ford Motor Company. These factories became indispensable suppliers to the German armed forces and, during the war, used thousands of POWs, civilians from German-occupied countries, and concentration camp prisoners as forced laborers. This account details the war era, and describes negotiations towards settlement of class action lawsuits against German corporations in US courts. The book includes conversations with survivors. Billstein is historian of industry and urban life at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
