When Monsieur Pamplemousse gets an urgent summons from the Director of Le Guide - France's oldest and best-loved gastronomic bible - he jumps in his old 2CV and heads straight for the office. Leaving behind an award-winning dinner and a rather choice bottle of wine, he instead faces the altogether less appealing prospect of a full-scale red-alert situation and all the chaos that will no doubt entail. For Monsieur Pamplemousse knows the call for help can mean only one thing: there is trouble at the top, and he and his faithful bloodhound Pommes Frites must once again employ their sleuthing expertise to sniff out the perpetrator.
But a surprise awaits them at the Le Guide headquarters. For one thing, neither of them expected that the trouble would involve a nun who is in the habit (though more often than not she's out of it...) of enticing wealthy men into joining the Mile High Club. It also comes as something of a shock to find that, thanks to a disturbing smear campaign, Le Guide is now awarding prizes for bedbugs and praising signature dishes of ordinary fish and chips. It's clear someone is infiltrating their files and trying to scupper the company's credibility - but why? Even Pommes Frites comes under attack and Monsieur Pamplemousse must do everything he can to save his canine companion's reputation - as well as his life.
