During WWII, Montreal citizens on the home front coped with shortages and food rationing by making do with what they had and recycling for the war effort. Women held jobs traditionally performed by men and some citizens protested against the war. This study draws on correspondence and interviews with soldiers and their families to paint a portrait of everyday life in Montreal during wartime. The book closes with a celebration of the city's entertainment and nightlife when the soldiers came home at the end of the war. It contains b&w historical photos. Author Burns has written other books on history. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
