This study reports on a restoration project on a section of Spain's Ebro River that includes the Galachos National Reserve, where natural riparian habitats can still be found. The project evaluated the influence of river disturbance on floodplain structure in the context of strong and repeated man-made disturbances. Total organic carbon and nitrogen accretion were selected as the function to be analyzed to evaluate the effect of river disturbance on the ecosystem's functioning. The study examines landscape changes, surface water hydrogeochemistry, flooded sediment, and riparian understory structure.
