Campbell, now a research professor at the University of New Mexico, blends a Korean War memoir with a study of the role of the Air Resupply and Communications Service (ARCS) during the war and a discussion of the opposing philosophies that shaped the Cold War. As an Air Force lieutenant with the ARCS, Campbell became an expert in the production and distribution of military propaganda and psychological warfare via leaflets. Within the chronological account of his training and operational duties, he gives his impressions of the natural and social environments in Korea and looks at how citizens of the Pacific Northwest reacted to the outbreak of the Korean War. The book includes rarely seen b&w historical photos and propaganda leaflets from both sides of the conflict. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
