In Verbum Domini, his 2010 apostolic exhortation, Pope Benedict XVI challenged the Church to keep theology firmly rooted in the study of Scripture. The eleven essays in this volume respond thoughtfully and concretely to that charge, addressing the issue from a wide range of practical and theoretical angles.

Part I of the book speaks to the complementary relationship of exegesis and theology, countering the common tendency to see them as separate tasks. Part II addresses more specifically the role of the Word of God in the formation of seminarians, offering guidance and encouragement so that priests may find in Scripture both a source of renewal for their vocation and well-grounded spiritual insights.
