Clark (environmental engineering, Northwestern U., Illinois) introduces students to processes of mass and momentum transport in the environment, and to pollution control equipment. Since the 1996 first edition, he says, the field has incorporated techniques from biotechnology and nanotechnology, and so he has increased the material on the physical chemistry of selected biological analyses and nano-scale phenomena. The algebra and simple differential equations should be accessible and familiar to undergraduate students of engineering, physics, or chemistry; previous courses in dynamics, fluid mechanics, mass or heat transfer, and physical chemistry would be helpful, he suggests, but not necessary.
