Cohen-Shalev (author and faculty member of Kinneret College on the Sea of Galilee) examines to dominant perspectives of the interface of old age and film: movies on old age by older filmmakers and by younger filmmakers, or taken another way, cinematic representation of aging from within and from that sphere of experience. The author also addresses the rarity of accurate representations of old age in film and the under-representation of the older population in film compared to their representation in the actual population. The author also discusses the topic within the context of films by directors such as Bergman and Kurosawa. The book will be interesting reading for film students and scholars and others in fields such as psychology of art and the sociology of old age. As of November 2008, the book has not yet been published. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
