Sometimes students' cultural and linguistic differences are mistaken for learning or behavioral disabilities and in other cases, cultural and linguistic differences mask a student's disability. The book offers a framework of seven steps for assessing factors such as cognitive learning style, sociolinguistic development and acculturation, and emotional development, and for providing intervention, differentiated instruction, integrated services, and referrals. An ongoing case study throughout the book demonstrates strategies for each of the seven steps. There is also advice on sustaining a program for exceptional CLD students and training teachers and paraprofessionals.
