Work-based learning is an approach to studying clinician education that reframes the relationship between learning and practice in socio-ecological terms. Cook (medical education, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary) and others at the University of London compile discussions in this framework. In the context of calls for reform in the National Health Service, mostly UK contributors present theoretically and empirically-based discussions of "communities of practice" as a type of medical apprenticeship, and what is being learned in face-to-face and online settings. Perspectives drawn from include social constructivist, activity, social semiotic, and actor-network theory. Distributed in the US by BookMasters.
