This volume records the growth of The Corning Museum's premier glass collection in the 1990s. The detailed color reproductions illustrate about 200 objects created over a period of 2,000 years, from the last few centuries B.C. to the present. The tableware, mosaics, jewelry, stained glass, lighting devices and furniture represent a wide variety of ancient and Islamic, European, American, and art nouveau treasures, some of which were acquired by the museum as gifts. Informative captions accompany the images, and an introduction by David Whitehouse (executive director of The Corning Museum) provides a history of the collection. Also contains a chapter on the Rakow Commission (an annual award to encourage innovation in glassmaking), and an index of artists, designers, and factories. Oversize: 9.25x12.25<">. Annotation c.
