This volume was written in response to Nicholson Baker's book Double Fold , which takes archivists to task for destroying original documents once they've been recorded on microfilm or other, non-paper source. Among the arguments Cox (information sciences, U. of Pittsburgh) makes is that Baker, in casting librarians as vandals who destroy newspapers and other archives, underestimates the very real problems of space experienced by libraries and the importance of microfilming for preserving a complex and ephemeral heritage.
