Captain Jack Crawford based his poetry and storytelling performances on his adventures as a prospector in the Dodge Expedition to the Black Hills of Dakota Territory. This book collects his letters to the Omaha Daily Bee, the Sidney Telegraph, the Black Hills Pioneer, and the New York Herald as they appeared on the newspapers' pages. The letters, written in 1875 and 1876, describe his travels, run-ins with outlaws and American Indians, and survival in the wilderness. Chapter introductions provide context and background.
