This work provides an anatomical survey of the five human sensory systems, with coverage of ontogeny, central pathways, and functional mechanisms. The text is supported with light and electron microscopic representations of healthy and intact organs or tissues (and some with pathology, if it is relevant to understanding normal structure and function). Included are microanatomy and endoscopic images of the temporal bone, human embryonic specimens demonstrating the histology of the developing ear, and scanning electron micrographs of the organ of Corti and the vestibular receptors. The images in the book are in b&w; the included CD-ROM contains them in color. Csillag (anatomy, histology, and embryology; Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary) is editor and primary author; several colleagues have made contributions.
