This work looks at how people try to beat drug tests with adulterants in urine and the consumption of various substances to alter urine composition, and explains how lawyers typically try to defend positive urine test results. While the book is written from the perspective of the toxicologist, and will appeal mainly to medical technologists and pathologists, it will also be of interest to human resources professionals at organizations that use drug testing in the workplace. After an overview chapter on commonly abused drugs and workplace drug testing, the book covers pharmacology of abused drugs, testing of SAMHA mandated and non-SAMHSA drugs, synthetic urine, flushing and detoxifying agents, household chemicals and Internet products, and adulteration of hair, oral fluid, and sweat specimens. Legal defenses are examined for defending positive opiate, marijuana, cocaine, and amphetamine test results. There is also a chapter on analytical true positives due to the use of prescription and OTC medications. Dasgupta is a practicing toxicologist.
