This is an index/dictionary of the 500 most frequently used Portuguese words that is intended to serve as a learning resource for the English speaker who is learning Portuguese. The dictionary is based on a 20-million-word corpus evenly divided between spoken, fiction, and non-fiction texts from Portugal and Brazil. The entries, organized according to frequency, provide the word's English equivalent, a sample Portuguese sentence with English translation, and indication of major genre variation.
