This collection of essays by religious scholars builds on the ideas of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, the prominent 20th Century Jesuit priest and paleontologist, who aimed to bridge the gap between theology and modern cosmology, and who is known in particular as a defender of the idea of evolution. Ways in which traditionally static Christian cosmology can itself evolve into an acceptance of God's 'unfinished universe' are explored, in the context of scientific and social developments since Teilhard's time. The book is appropriate for students of religion, philosophy, and philosophy of science, and each chapter is supplemented with "points to ponder" and "questions for discussion." Editor Delio is director of the Catholic Studies Program at Georgetown University, and is a member of the Order of St. Francis. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
