This volume is a revised edition of Manual of clinical laboratory immunology, 6th ed. (2002), with the addition of 'molecular' to the title a distinct indication of the impact of molecular biology on the field. Serving as an essential reference for directors of immunology laboratories, the text contains 142 chapters, including one on laboratory management. The chapters are grouped in sections, with an initial section on general methodology. Many of the sections commence with an introductory chapter to the topic that follows. In this edition, revised and expanded treatment is found in each chapter, with notable changes in the sections on transplantation, monitoring of cytokines and chemokines, multiple applications of flow cytometry, allergic diseases, and cancer. Detrick co-edits the volume with Robert G. Hamilton (both are with the Johns Hopkins U. School of Medicine) and James D. Folds (U. of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill).
