In light of renewed interest in the international approach to war crimes occasioned by the recent establishment of tribunals dealing with the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, the Law Faculty at Tel Aviv University invited specialists in international law to a colloquium in December 1993. The resulting 22 papers were published in Israel Yearbook on Human Rights vol. 24, and are here offered in a separate volume. They cover offenses and responsibility, punishment, special situations, and the 1993 Demjanjuk case in which the Israeli Supreme Court acquitted an appellant who had been convicted and sentenced for war crimes during World War II.
