Published to accompany a delightful exhibition held in 2008-2009 at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, the UK, and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and drawing from the collections of the Getty and the Temple Newsam House in Leeds, this beautifully illustrated, oversized catalogue (10x12") presents detailed entries on drawings and finished sculpted objects in marble, stone, wood, and porcelain, many of them gilded, which originally decorated grand drawing rooms in 17th- and 18th-century Europe. The volume concludes with four essays that consider the theme of metamorphosis, the use of the figure, firedogs, and the incorporation of sculpture in the production of late Baroque decorative arts. In addition to the color plates of works, many images are included of prints, drawings, related works, details, and views of the exhibit's installation. The 5 essay contributors are curators and art historians in the US and the UK. Not indexed. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
