This guide to using the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Model is aimed specifically at secondary teachers. The model, which uses sheltered instruction to provide English learners with access to grade-level content standards, is described through chapters on each of the eight components, which also contain lesson plans and activities for use with middle and high school students. Echevarría (education, California State U., Long Beach, and Center for Research on the Educational Achievement and Teaching of English Language Learners) et al., who developed the model, also explain how to write content and language objectives, include four different formats for lessons plans in this edition, and discuss teaching English learners with reading or learning disabilities and scoring and interpreting the SIOP protocol. The CD-ROM contains video vignettes of instruction and brief video clips of the authors discussing the model. The book is based on Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners: The SIOP Model, which includes all grade levels. New vignettes of lessons are provided in each chapter.
