William Eggleston (b. 1939) brought color photography to the forefront and used his talents to create images of ordinary subjects and ordinary life. Filmmaker Michael Almereyda made five trips to Memphis during the course of a year to search through the Eggleston archives--four decades of work and some 35,000 digital scans. His goal was to select unseen, unpublished images absent from the extensive "Collected Hits" retrospective still travelling as this book went to press. Eggleston's color photos occupy the major portion of the book, presented full page, in an extravagantly oversize format (12.5x13.75"). Text by Almereyda, Lloyd Fonvielle, Greil Marcus, and Amy Taubin, and an interview with Eggleston conducted by Kristine McKenna conclude the volume.
