Part I defines human service as a career choice and discusses some of the tangible and intrinsic reasons why people want to become human service professionals. Part II consists of 18 chapters, authored by about 30 contributors, offering an overview of various disciplines such as audiology, psychology, social work, therapy, mediation, and special education. Each chapter in this section gives information on types of clients served, philosophical assumptions and theories, work settings, professional preparation, and salaries. Part III presents a brief overview of five major occupational areas where individuals with non- graduate degrees frequently find employment working with people. Part IV offers an in-depth discussion of professionalism in human services, and discusses professional issues such as ethics, certification, and licensure.
