This festschrift honors Stephen F. Brown (Boston College), whose scholarship and personal investment has benefited at least three generations of colleagues and students. Initiated as a tribute for his 75th birthday in 2008, the collection travelled a long road to completion, but exists now has a 1,000-plus page volume containing 35 contributions. Arrangement is in sections on metaphysics and natural philosophy, epistemology and ethics, philosophy and theology, theological questions, and text and context. The three editors are affiliated as follows: Kent Emery, Jr. (Medieval Institute at the U. of Notre Dame), Russell L. Friedman (Catholic U. of Leuven, Belgium), and Andreas Speer (U. of Cologne, Germany). They provide an introductory essay offering a biography of Brown and a summary of his scholarly interests, which include medieval discussion of the scientific nature of theology, and the thought of William of Ockham, among other topics. An Index Codicum and Index Nominen enhance usefulness of the collection. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
