Specifically, Ewalt uses classical and sacred rhetorical techniques to describe the spiritual and scientific discourse of Gumilla's El Orinoco Ilustrado, explaining its influence on the Catholic Enlightenment as a source uniting sentiment and reason that allows for emotion within scientific inquiry and accepts the sense of wonder as a part of the dissemination of information.
