Offering balanced coverage of both qualitative and quantitative research, this book/CD-ROM package for undergraduate nursing students and RNs overviews the nature of nursing research and the nursing process. It details the steps for planning a research study, and explains how to interpret and report research findings and critique research reports. Steps of the research process are illustrated with excerpts from numerous published nursing studies, presented in a two-color, brief box layout to illustrate specific concepts, steps, and formats. In addition, the book provides an ethical knowledge base, and helps students gain an understanding of which specific statistical procedures and research designs can be used to answer various research questions. Chapter learning objectives, glossaries, and summaries of key ideas are included. For this third edition, the workbook section of the text has been moved to a companion CD-ROM. Also new to this edition is a chapter on qualitative research, and expanded coverage of epidemiology and biostatistics. Fain is affiliated with the Department of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
