Farmer (economics, U. of California, Los Angeles; Self-Fulfilling Prophecies in Macroeconomics), introduces this collection of nine articles constituting a festschrift for economist Axel Leijonhufvud (emeritus, UCLA; monetary theory and policy, U. of Trento, Italy). Contributors provide historical and technical supplements to Leijonhufvud's influential ideas: On Keynesian Economics and the Economics of Keynes (1968), in which he expressed discomfort with rigid interpretations of Keynes' economics; and most relevant currently, that during normal economic times the economy operates within a 'corridor' of acceptable fluctuations, and economists should draw lessons from historical events like the Great Depression when the economy moved shockingly outside this corridor.
