Fitzpatrick, with help from colleagues, reports on excavations at two sites near Stonehenge that have been being conducted for 15 years now. From the 24th century BC, the two graves are among the oldest Bell Beakers graves found so far in Britain. Findings there and other sites at and near Boscombe Down have allowed archaeologists to construct a detailed chronological sequence for the area. The Archer and some of the Bowmen seem to have been migrants. Among the topics are chronology and radiocarbon dating, strontium and oxygen isotope evidence, the local and European settings, Bell Beaker mortuary rites in Wessex, the journeys of the Bowmen on the islands and the continent, the construction of social identities, and whether the Archer and Companion came by way of the Rhine or the Rhône.
