This work is part of a synoptic account of the plants of North America north of Mexico: the continental US (including the Florida Keys and Aleutian Islands), Canada, Greenland, and St. Pierre and Miquelon. The book catalogs 652 different species in 117 genera contained in ten families of the order Caryophyllales . Entries feature identification keys, descriptions, line drawings, and ecological characteristics for each species, plus distribution maps for both native and established species, and a list of synonyms currently in use for accepted names. The entire set is intended to serve as both a means of identifying plants within the region and as a systematic conspectus of the North American flora.
