Fontichiaro, an elementary teacher librarian, investigates the educational potential of podcasting, the process of creating audio files using computer software and distributing them electronically. She explains that, contrary to popular misunderstanding, podcasting software does not require an iPod, and that projects can be converted to CDs, sent via e-mail, stored and heard on classroom computers, posted to a Web site or blog, or channeled into iTunes to await subscribers. She looks at several podcasting tools, many of which are free, that educators can use. After building a solid technical foundation, she introduces readers to a variety of lesson plans that motivate students and stretch higher-order thinking. Discussion of student privacy issues is interwoven throughout. The book will be of interest to K-12 educators, librarians, community education leaders, and others who work with children. A companion wiki is available to share experiences. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
