From 1638-1655, Sweden maintained a colony in the region of the Delaware River on the east coast of the North American continent. In this study, Fur examines Swedish policies towards the Lenape and Susquehannock Indians from the perspective of Swedish administrators and officers. She then compares these interactions in North America with those involving Swedish colonizers and the indigenous Saami people in Lapland during the same period. Fur teaches history at Växjö U. in Sweden. The text is based on her dissertation (1993, U. of Oklahoma). Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
