First published in 1991, this collection presents the history of the poem written by Clement Clarke Moore in 1822 for his daughters, titled "A Visit from St. Nicholas." Gardner explains the evolution of Santa Claus, provides footnotes and a description of the text, and compiles several poems titled "The Night After Christmas," parodies, including those from Mad Magazine, and imitations since 1856. The story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is described, and historical illustrations are spread throughout the book. A postscript corrects errors to the 1991 first edition. No index is provided.
