Endogenous small regulatory RNAs are of intense research interest because they act as cellular rheostats, subtly modulating gene expression. This book reviews the latest work on a variety of small RNA regulatory pathways in organisms ranging from bacteria to humans. In addition to covering biological aspects of the biogenesis and processing of these RNAs, the book also considers the functional importance of small RNA regulatory pathways in host organisms, and describes techniques for using small RNAs to study gene function or as therapeutic modalities. Fast, low-cost approaches for reversing genetic influences in mammals are delineated, and breakthroughs are described in the use of microRNA-based therapy for HIV and cancer. Gaur teaches molecular biology at Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope. Rossi is affiliated with the Department of Molecular Genetics at the City of Hope, Duarte, California.
