Cognitive sociolinguistics investigates the socio-cognitive dimensions of language at a usage-based level. European linguists focus rather narrowly here on language-internal variation and methodological advances with an emphasis on empirical usage-based variation research. Covering lexical and lexical-semantic variation, constructional variation, and research on lectal attitudes and acquisitions, they demonstrate how the new discipline studies both the variation of meaning and the meaning of variation. Among the topics are measuring and parameterizing lexical convergence and divergence between European and Brazilian Portuguese, acquiring and not acquiring grammatical gender in two varieties of Dutch, and investigations into the folk's mental models of linguistic varieties. The 10 papers are from the 10th International Cognitive Linguistics Conference, in Krakòw, Poland on an undisclosed date. They are not indexed.
