Many medical professionals today are becoming more open to combining the use of traditional pharmaceutical medicine with practices from other traditions, oriental, herbal and holistic for example; and if human patients are exploring alternate medical choices then it follows that they would want their pets to have the same opportunities. Goldsteinn, director of Veterinary Services for the Animal Nutrition Technologies Healing Center for Animals, and a number of other veterinarians have compiled this guidebook on the integration of these traditions. After an explanatory section on the different methods, they arrange the book by types of disease: those of the organs, infectious diseases, and cancer. For each are listed complementary treatments involving nutrition, herbs, and acupuncture, among others. Each recommendation is referenced, and the chemical make up of all treatments is given. The intended audience is veterinary professionals. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
