This accessible guide will help pre- and in-service teachers understand the impact of racism on students and in education, and will help teachers lead classroom discussions on race and racism at all levels, from preschool to high school and higher education. The book includes classroom dialogues for preschool, elementary, middle, and high school, plus letters from real students expressing their views on dealing with race in school. The guide also contains interviews with teachers, administrators, and activists, including Mariano Espinoza, leader of the Minnesota Dream Act movement. One section is devoted to using the arts to engage youth in discussions of school and race, and another section examines implications for teacher education. The book closes with letters written by black and Latino males about race in the classroom. Grineski teaches education at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
