This important contribution to the history of Yiddish publications presents a first-time attempt at compiling a comprehensive bibliography of the wealth of such books printed in the Netherlands from 1640 to the waning postwar era of Yiddish printing. Gutschow's introduction attributes main sources as Vinograd's Thesaurus of the Hebrew Book and the Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana; and project sponsors as the Menasseh ben Israel Institute (Amsterdam) plus relevant departments at the U. of Amsterdam and Heinrich Heine U., Dusseldorf. Haggadoth and calendars are excluded. Arranged chronologically by date of printing, titles appear in alphabetical order within each year. Entries include holding library and genre.
