Harnois (sociology, Wake Forest U.) shows how to bring an "intersectional" or "multiracial feminist" approach to survey design and statistical analysis. She provides an overview of feminist social science research, focusing on issues and inadequacies in research design specific to racism and feminism, and explores feminist theories of race and gender. She draws on 50 actual case studies to explore these issues and apply her considerations. Since she is exploring issues in social science research, there is a non-negligible amount of math involved and most chapters include tables and graphs. In the final chapter she offers suggestions for future research for moving beyond essentialist interpretations of gender, conveying diversity in statistical models, evaluating measures, integrating post-positivist aims and moving beyond disciplinary boundaries. This text is written for social scientists and readers of statistically grounded feminist-research. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
